oh its a foray.
Flux: changing materiality... fragmented, dissolving... continually evolving through use.... ...also, as our consciousness/memory about the bombings changes (which it will as we become further removed), our perception of this place will also change... hence its use and appearance. Can't define the place or the experince of the tragedy. Furthermore, you cannot define individual responses to the tragedy and the site....
flexible... modulor.... rather than static.

collision.
beauty is from old and new. subdue anger. collide ideas. actions are made to emulate hope.
yes this has happened..deal with it.
effect? growth. tumor. negative or positive. collide ideas, human interactions.
time: history is changed because of event, ability to effect others internationally. war is the oldest form of conflict, is global. ability to rid of a problem quickly. to get what one wants without fully thinking through the consequences, or if anything, not wanting to face others issues...its an opinion.
in the end, anger....has no pertinence.

Effect!?: "CANCER".... "GROWTH"..... "TUMOR"....
the people can alter the rate of change.

the abandoned airbase becomes useful...how?
the church is now an apartment complex. air conditioners bellow out of each window..like small, regulated tu....
the history is torn and jagged. it is recreating itself into something.....
false facade. casino playground.the town was renewed ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS.
these are my thoughts. on this town.

EXPLORE: Wendover, as the site.
EXPLORE: Protect + Maintain VS Conquer + Colonization of place.
EXPLORE: Change of building use when a new purpose arises.

Earth Art....according to Metamorph
Is an image of our post industrial age, a conceptual model.
Is still of an untested potential.
Works such as the "Spiral Jetty", "Party Buried Woodshed", and "Double Negative" are all examples of Earth Art. Is there any instance of an Earth Architecture?
Constructivism + Cubism + Minimalism = architectural projects, not earth architecture
Harold Bloom: "The Anxiety of Influence": Earth Art serves architecture as influence.
Sola-Morales' essay on "Terrain Vague":
art seeks to protect and maintain VS architecture is to conquer and colonize terrain
Can Architecture articulate the passage of time without itself dissapearing!?
Does it EVOKE an image of the terrain?
ex: Herzog + Meuron's Schaulager in Basel, where the facade appears to be a compressed version of the surroundings.
Being open to..feelings of the place.
EARTH ART stands as a mirror image of the fragile nature of architecture.
THE POWER TIME HAS ON ARCHITECTURE.

the prime motivation.
MATERIALITY: shows the fragile nature of everything in our world, and the power we have to control things...BUT nature will always bring everything back, the cycle of life...everything EVERYTHING returns eventually. This project shows the fragile of human life, and the physicality of ONE human being becomes apparent to the viewer, and if the viewer can reflect on this fact, and perhaps allow ones self to be open to how the materiality expresses this and other worldly ideas...................

after entering the 140,000 i discovered that the actual number of people killed in the first bomb was 70,000 in the first few kms of the center. the numbers doubled after a few days. but the initial number stands around the 70 000 mark. when this number is transcribed into physicality, its astonishing. what does 70 000 represent? what can we compare 70 000 to? 70 000 what....
what. the printer took forever to print out the 70 000(2' x 2') and the
70 000(2' x 5'6")....
a standing vertical human.
a horizontal human.
how about humans being integrated into the earth? from standing....slowly moving down...or negative verticality....
each person is approximately 4-6 pounds of ash.
5 times 70 000 = 350 000 pounds of ash.
what does that weigh? how can we fathom that.
these figures must equate to something architectural. the complexity is apparent.
what is present?
unpleasant. doubtful.
from the bad, good must transpire.
hope.

and said "Good morning." to colleagues and I was about to
approach my desk when outside it suddenly turned bright red. I
felt very hot on my cheeks....As soon as I cried, I felt weightless as if I were an
astronaut....I went to the windows to find out where the bombing had taken
place. And I saw the mushroom cloud over the gas company. The
sound and shock somehow suggested that the bomb had been dropped
right over the gas company. I still had no idea what had
happened. And I kept looking towards the gas company....As they came to us,
they held their hands aloft. They looked like they were ghosts....It's a sad reality that the smell human beings produce when they are burned is the same as that of the dried squid when
it is grilled. The squid - we like so much to eat. It was a
strange feeling, a feeling that I had never had before. I can
still remember that smell quite clearly....
INTERVIEWER : How many patients did you treat on August 6?
ANSWER : Well, at least 2 or 3 thousands on that very day if you
include those patients whom I gave all directions to. I felt
that as if once that day started, it never ended. I had to keep
on and on treating the patients forever. It was the longest day
of my life....
I learned that the nuclearweapons which gnaw the minds and bodies of human beings shouldnever be used. Even the slightest idea using nuclear arms shouldbe completely exterminated the minds of human beings. Otherwise,we will repeat the same tragedy. And we will never stop beingashamed of ourselves.
Ode to the sun.

January 30th, 2005. journal entry.
The road is a bit bumpy. Well, we have just passed through Reno Nevada on route to Fernley..on route to Wendover..and the Bonneville salt flats. The visit to the CLUI in Pasadena was very interesting and I have much anticipation as we head to Wendover. What will await us in this city boardering two states? As the sun plays tricks in the sky, we appreciate new happenings, but are weary and will be glad to return home.
What is it about this region that weighs heavy on the mind?
